2. First Contact Etiquette

When you decide to find someone in person, the hardest moment is usually the first three seconds. Double Stop gives you a phrase to cross that gap: "D-Stop [name]?"

That phrase does several things at once. It immediately identifies you as a Double Stop user β€” not a stranger beginning an unwanted conversation. It says the person's chosen name, which is a small but deeply humanising act. And it gives the other person complete clarity: they can smile and say yes, shake their head, or keep walking. The phrase is designed to have a low social cost in both directions.

  • Approach from a visible direction. Nobody should be startled.
  • Keep your voice calm and your posture open β€” arms relaxed, not reaching for your phone.
  • Smile. It is the only universal signal.
  • If they do not respond or gently decline, nod and move on. This is not failure β€” it is the system working exactly as intended.
  • One clear, friendly attempt is the complete social contract. Do not linger or follow up.

By using Double Stop you accept full responsibility for your own safety during any in-person interaction. Double Stop is a neutral platform and is not liable for the actions of any user. For full details see our Terms of Service and Privacy Policy.
